R-Respect, Responsibility, and...S-Self ControlBehavior Management:
We will study these words and model examples and non examples. These three character traits are non-negotiable for the classroom. I also spend a lot of time teaching the meaning of integrity: doing the right thing even if no one is looking. If there is an issue, I will notify you through the calendar, e-mail, phone call or conference request. Remember, a first grader is still very young and they have to be taught and practice these character traits. I do not ever expect perfection but I always say it is better to work out these behavior issues now than when they are in Junior High! Let me know if there is a strategy that works at home with your child or if there is something you just don't know how to handle. We've all been there as parents! We are a parent/teacher team! |
T-ToysPlease keep them at home unless you see a note in the newsletter. This includes cars, plastic jewelry, Pokémon cards, etc. If a child is found playing with a toy in the hallway, recess or in the classroom, they will be placed in the May Box. You "may" get them back in May and you "may" not.

U-UnderstandingIf something is happening in your child's life that is out of his/her routine, please let me know. Even the slightest change can cause stress in a child and I can be more flexible in the classroom if I am aware.( I have been known to fix pony tails when Mommies are out of town:)
